CONVERGE THINK TANK pilot meeting
Venue: European Parliament, A1H1 (Altiero Spinelli Building),
Date: Tuesday, 15 May from 15h00 to 16h30
Recognising that the sustainable development challenge is becoming increasingly acute, in the face of population growth, escalating consumption, a sharp rich-poor divide, environmental pressures, and climate change, the CONVERGE project focuses on how a transition to global equity for human society within the finite limits of our one planet (that is convergence) might inform EU policy. The main purpose of this meeting is to discuss the possibilities for a CONVERGE THINK TANK based in the EU but with international participation.
We will discuss two main questions:
1) Can CONVERGE help broker more collaboration between those focussed on Environment and those focussed on Human Rights and Development?
2) Can CONVERGE help to develop an internationally acceptable ethical guiding frame for sustainability policy that recognises the nested scales of the global system?
This pilot meeting will consist of activities and discussion to explore the above questions and to resolve on next steps. We are working towards a summative EU policy event and possible launch of a CONVERGE THINK TANK at the conclusion of the project in 2013. The CONVERGE EU policy team warmly invite you to join us and contribute your views.
